Is it strong? Powerful? Non-existent? In the midst of daily job cuts, which seem to be the trend during first quarter of every year (fiscal year, thanks Angie!), hopefully, you’ve been building your personal brand. Most of you have heard this term tossed around a lot these days. It’s nothing new; just one of those buzz words that’s cycled back around through the decades. Napoleon Hill talked about it first, Tom Peters coined it, and William Arruda is the guru of it (per Entrepreneur Magazine).
But… if you would like to know what I mean specifically, as it relates to your company doing layoffs, I’m talking about making sure you’re indispensable. At BluePrint Resumes & Consulting, we always ask our clients: What are you best known for? Or Better yet, what would your peers say you are best known for?
Are you the Subject Matter Expert or first point of contact for processes and systems? What about driving product innovation?
When things are in disarray are you the one to get the project back on track? Set the standards for quality of service?
Does your team trust you? Can you rally them around a cause or an idea enough to make them as passionate as you are in reaching a company goal?
What about building customer trust and loyalty? Are you the one who instills this?
You see, as long as you establish your brand and continue building it, you’re on a roadmap for better opportunities. The powers that be take notice and you have less of a chance of getting the axe. Or, you can at least move on to even bigger things, because so and so over at ABC company knows your value and has been waiting for the chance to snatch you up!
So, how is your brand? Is it strong? Powerful? If not, you better get busy so that you don’t end up in the next round of job cuts.
